Factory Finishes for Bespoke Wooden Doors
Every bespoke wooden door we make is professionally finished in our own spray shop before it leaves the workshop. Whether you choose a painted or stained finish, we use high-performance coating systems designed specifically for exterior joinery, giving your door exceptional protection while enhancing the natural beauty of the timber.
Unlike site applied finishes, our controlled factory environment allows us to achieve a consistent, durable finish that’s ready to withstand the British weather from day one.
Factory Painted Doors
We use the Teknos Aquatop industrial coating system, one of the leading finishes for high-quality timber joinery.
Our complete paint system includes:
- One coat of Teknos primer
- End grain sealing
- Two spray-applied Teknos top coats
This creates a tough, flexible microporous finish that allows the timber to breathe while protecting it from moisture, UV light and everyday weathering.
Colour Matching
We can spray your door in almost any colour, including:
- Farrow & Ball
- RAL
- British Standard (BS)
- Many other recognised paint ranges
If you already have a colour in mind, simply let us know the reference and we’ll advise whether we can match it.
We always recommend purchasing a sample pot from the paint manufacturer if you’re unsure of a colour, as colours can appear differently on different screens.
Factory Stained Doors
If you prefer to showcase the natural beauty of real timber, our translucent stain finishes allow the grain to remain visible while providing excellent protection.
Suitable for:
- European Oak
- Iroko
- Sapele
- Idigbo
Our staining process includes:
- Protective base stain
- End grain sealer
- Two coats of Teknos translucent topcoat
This system enhances the character of the timber while protecting it against moisture and UV exposure.
Every piece of timber is unique, so slight variations in colour and grain are completely natural and part of the beauty of solid wood.
Extra Protection for Oak
Before assembly, our oak products receive a coat of Osmo Aqua WR.
This penetrating treatment helps:
- Reduce moisture absorption
- Minimise the risk of splitting
- Improve dimensional stability
- Help reduce black mildew that can develop when oak remains wet for long periods
Because this treatment is applied before the components are assembled, every part of the door receives protection.
Dual Colour Finishes
Want a painted exterior with a natural timber finish inside or a stained exterior with a painted finish inside
or even different paint colours on each side to complement both the exterior and interior of their home.
As every doorset is made to order, we can discuss the best combination for your project.
Factory Finished Means Less Maintenance
Our factory-applied systems are designed for long service life, but like all timber products, they benefit from occasional maintenance.
Typical maintenance intervals are:
Painted finishes
- Usually around 5 years before recoating, depending on exposure.
Translucent stain finishes
- Normally 6–12 months before applying a maintenance coat, depending on the location and weather conditions.
Homes in exposed coastal or south-facing locations may require more frequent maintenance.
Why We Factory Finish Every Door
We don’t supply unfinished external doors.
Factory finishing provides:
- Better protection from day one
- Consistent spray quality
- Improved durability
- Complete coating before installation
- Reduced maintenance compared with site finishing
It also means your new door arrives ready to install and enjoy.
Why We Use Teknos
We’ve trusted Teknos for many years because it offers:
- Excellent UV protection
- Flexible microporous coatings
- Outstanding adhesion
- Long-lasting colour
- Professional industrial finish
- Specifically designed for exterior timber joinery
Combined with proper maintenance, it’s one of the best coating systems available for bespoke wooden doors.
Looking After Your Door
To keep your door looking its best, we recommend:
- Washing occasionally with water add a drop of washing up liquid for tough marks
- Inspecting the finish each year.
- Recoating when the finish begins to lose its sheen.
- Lubricating locks and hinges every three months.
With regular care, a solid timber door can provide decades of reliable service.
